Dangers of Texting while Driving
Distracted Driving
The best way to end distracted driving is to educate all Americans about the dangers of texting while driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 16% of fatal crashes in 2009 involved reports of distracted driving. Teen drivers are more likely than other age groups to be involved in a fatal crash where distraction is reported. Like “Keep your Eyes on the Road” on Facebook and help save a life!
Faces of Distracted Driving
On October 10, 2010, 5-year-old Xzavier Davis-Bilbo was crossing the street near his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when he was struck by a young woman who was texting while driving. Xzavier, who had dreams of becoming a football player when he grew up, was left paralyzed from the diaphragm down.
Valetta Bradford, Xzavier’s mother, is now an advocate against distracted driving and created this video with the help of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
