Every year people from all over New York City and nearby New Jersey area head to the Beaches of the Garden and Empire State Shore areas for fun in the sun as well as fun at the many amusement parks and carnivals close by. However, some of these places may have not been as ready for business as they had thought or erroneously presented themselves as. That is usually what leads to amusement park accidents in New York.
Earlier this year in Ohio, a horrific accident occurred during the use of a ride called Fireball. However; it does point out that, no matter what precautions are made, something can go wrong. The ride had passed the owner’s inspection and a number of independent inspections including the state inspection before being allowed to operate.
Regular Inspection Don’t Always Prevent Accidents
It is sad to say that none of these prevented the death of one person and injury to seven others. But there can be other problems with inspections as well as the fact that different states have guidelines for inspecting amusement park machinery. Take New Jersey for instance; the State Department of Community Affairs has to approve the ride to even attain the materials needed to build the ride and their inspectors rigorously inspect the building of the ride and compare it to the manufacturer’s own specifications.
A problem with these rides sometimes happens when a loosening of the rules – like how big a rider should be or what age should they allowed to be on the rise. Safety belts and other devices may be falling into disrepair but not noticed in time. In New Jersey, however, that may be noticed by a random inspector who comes in to make sure all the rules are being followed.
Areas around these rides may result in a slip and fall injury so, even in New Jersey, all can’t be prevented. If there was an accident in New York or New Jersey, an amusement park accident lawyer can help.
