BRIDGEWATER — A two vehicle accident Tuesday morning trapped two injured patients in an overturned pickup truck and shut down Route 287 south in Bridgewater for an hour, authorities said.
At about 11:38 a.m. a collision was reported in the express lanes of Route 287 south near Exit 21 for Route 78 according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
As of 11:55 a.m., the DOT reported that all southbound lanes on both the express and local sides were temporarily blocked.
North Branch Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to assist Green Knoll Volunteer Fire Company with two injured passengers still trapped into their seats in the pickup truck at mile marker 20.3, Chief David Hickson said.
A second vehicle that was unoccupied had rolled away from the scene and came to a stop at mile marker 20.1, Hickson said.
Chief James Vitale from Green Knoll established command and the crews from both fire departments stabilized and extricated both patients with about 15 minutes, Hickson said.
New Jersey State Police medevac was dispatched for the patients but the paramedics on scene canceled in favor of ground transportation to local hospitals, Hickson said.
Units on scene included Green Knoll and North Branch Fire, Green Knoll Rescue, Robert Wood Johnson Medics and New Jersey State Police, Hickson said. All units were cleared in approximately an hour, he said.
