Social Security Benefits
When a worker becomes seriously disabled, either permanently or for a continuous period of not less than 12 months, as a result of a medically determinable physical or mental impairment or injury, that worker may be entitled to the payment of monthly Social Security benefits.
Social Security Disability insurance will pay these benefits to you and certain family members if you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
It is easy enough to qualify for Social Security Disability; however, as a disability attorney, I have seen numerous cases in which even claimants deserving of benefits get denied. The SSDI claims process can be a maze; it is therefore recommended that you contact an attorney as soon as you are denied for the first time. Without help you might simply lose, even if you are a deserving claimant.
