What to do immediately after you are hit by a car

With millions of drivers on the road, it should come as no surprise that accidents, where someone is hit by a car, account for more deaths than that of all natural disasters combined.

Drivers and passengers of a vehicle that has recklessly or negligently been hit by another car are entitled to fair compensation for a variety of medical and emotional traumas.

Immediately following an accident, it is important to document everything that you can.  This is done in a number of ways.

Assuming you are not injured severely enough to be transported to a hospital for emergency treatment, you should still see a doctor.  By doing so, not only do you get medical care to ensure your own health, but it also helps in documenting the injuries you sustained in the accident.  The sooner you can get in to see a doctor, the more it strengthens your case going forward.

Exchange information with the other driver.  If the police are dispatched to the accident site, they will take a report with much of the information you need, but it does not hurt to get all of the contact information, policy numbers, and so forth, on your own.

As soon as you are able, document the evidence at the accident site.  The advent of smartphones with cameras makes this much easier than in years past.  Take pictures of any damage to your car, inside and out, the road conditions, the general layout of the accident site (intersection, busy street, day, night, twilight, etc.).  Also, take notes of any information you think will be important so that it is captured first hand.
